2014 is here. I don’t think I noticed that 2013 had even left the building. I think the older I get the faster time seems to get, and in lies a weird duality. Life is full of moments that appear to take forever while in the moment, but, with perspective, theses moments amount to nothing more than a few seconds in an hour, in a day, in a year that makes up a life, that always seems to end too soon. In short, pay attention. The life you save may just be your own. So…let’s do this!
With this in mind, I’ve resolved to do a few things this year:
1. Be better at communicating. I’ve been lazy, up to now, about letting you know what’s going on in the world of Bob, and, if you are reading this, then you obviously care for some reason. For this, I thank you.
2. Do more art. My art of choice is, obviously, music. So, you can expect to see more videos, more shows, and hear more music. I’ve got some collaborations in the works and a couple of key shows. More importantly, this means simply, I’m going to play for as many people as my schedule will allow. 2014 is shaping up to be one of my busiest years yet, and I couldn’t be more proud. Hop on over to my shows section to find out where I’m playing. The connection derived from experiencing live music, both as listener and performer, is, to me, more profound than anything else I’ve experienced, and I do hope that you will come experience it with me.
3. Stop procrastinating. This I just added…kind of. I intended to send this blog out weeks ago, but I rationalized putting it off for a myriad of reasons, none of which seem at all important now (see previous comment on insignificant moments).
There you have it, short and sweet. I don’t really believe in resolutions, but I’m hoping the act of writing them down will encourage me to be accountable. In light of this accountability, I feel obligated to tell you about events that are in the near future that excite me. First, I’m back up to York, Pennsylvania this weekend to the Holy Hound Taproom on Saturday (01/11). I love beer and I love Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania is so beautiful that I leave extra early so I can take my time and enjoy the scenery. Second, on this coming Monday (01/13), I get to go back to Pennsylvania and play music with two people that have been more instrumental in my career than even they can imagine. I’m talking about Eric and Kate Avey, better known as the duo Strung Tight (aveymusic.com). This performance is part of a live web-series they are doing from their home in Waynesboro, PA called AVTV (click here to watch my show with them and all their other episodes. This episode is focusing on original music, and I’m honored they chose to showcase me. The show starts at 8pm (EST).
I want to end this little post with two things (apparently I like making lists…but only short ones): First…Thanks! To all the people that support this dream I continue to live. Thanks for listening to my crazy. Thanks for identifying. Thanks for being awesome! Second, I want to know what you guys are thinking. So, my question of the day is: what resolution did you make that will challenge you the most? Feel free to leave a comment below! Ceasing my incessant procrastinating will most likely be like pulling teeth, but I take solace in the fact that the first step in solving a problem is recognizing the existence of said problem. I digress…please tell me about your resolutions so I can know that it’s not just me who feels like anything is possible with hard work and a little bit of luck.
Again, thanks for reading. Thanks for listening. Thanks for supporting live music (or any art for that matter!) Together, we can build a scene. Let’s do this!
